And now it's just sad

I finally took down my Christmas tree on Saturday. In fairness, I took all the ornaments off the week before. And on Saturday morning, as I was riding the bus to meet up to go snowshoeing, I did ride by a house that still had their tree up. So I am not alone in liking Christmas decor.

Anyway, I took the tree down on Saturday and now my living room is incredibly empty. And boring. And kind of sad. Who knew that a tree made such a difference? I should be thrilled to have more room, but nope. It's just kind of a bummer.

On the bright side, ten more months and it can go up again. :)

Check Mark on the Bucket List

Today, I finally got to cross something off my bucket list: I went snowshoeing.

Snowshoeing has been on my bucket list for a few years. I tried to go a couple weeks ago, but there wasn't really enough snow. Instead, a thin layer of packed down snow that boots were good enough for, and then halfway up a lot of ice. And snowshoes don't work so great on ice.

But today, I tried again with a friend, and it was great! I like hiking (not super duper crazy hiking. I don't know if I have the stamina, I'm a bit of a wuss. But, nice, day hikes), and I like snow, and I like mountains, so this was a combination of all three and I really enjoyed it. It was good exercise and a nice day outdoors.

And,  of course, I took photos:

Clearly, a fun weekend for me. So, now I can move on to the next thing on my bucket list. As soon as I figure out what that is.

An extended weekend

Due to a funeral, I ended up having a 4-day weekend, starting with no work on Friday. While the funeral was a sad occasion, I'm not going to lie, it was nice to have an extra day and to have it coincide with an existing 3-day weekend.

And it was a productive weekend. I finished weeding my books, more or less. The goal was to be able to put all of the books I have acquired since I moved into the boxes of books that I brought out with me. Which has been done with room to spare.

Then I spent some time working on my Christmas photographs. I finished labeling them, deleted the ones that weren't worth keeping, and learned a little bit about using Photo Shop so I could do some cleanup. Still not sure how I feel about editing photos, but these were family photos, and I was mostly adjusting lighting and minor cleanup. Nothing major (especially since I lack the patience to sit through that many Photo Shop videos to learn all the tricks).

I watched and enjoyed Marshall*, made soup to eat for my lunch this week, prepped a thank you card for my Christmas hosts, and worked on my blog book project.** So, all in all, a pretty productive weekend. And I got some sleep in there.

The only bummer is that I have to go back to work tomorrow. Sigh.

*My only complaint, which is not specific to this show, is the increasing use of the f-word in PG-13 movies. When did this become okay? Why is it necessary? Were people really complaining about the lack of that word? I just don't understand. Anyway, I am now giving you the heads up in case you are concerned.
**I like things in hard copies. So I convert every hundred posts into book format. Just in case. Things happen, you know.

Follow Up, or, Not Your Typical Resume

As previously mentioned, I spent the holiday walking my nephew around the house. Well, yesterday was his birthday--he is officially one!--and I got a text from my sister reporting on his progress:

"He took his first couple of steps just before [his sister] left [to go back to college]. He has done nine so far on his own and now he is starting to try to do it all on his own, not just when we try to get him to. He isn't officially walking yet but I think you can put teaching a baby to walk on your resume."

Which is pretty darn cool! Although, it is a bit sad to think that he won't sit on the floor sticking out his little paw to go walking anymore. Sigh.

I wonder how he's doing at drinking from a cup?!*

*I failed to mention that I also spent time working with him on this new trick as well. It mostly resulted in very wet clothes, for him and for me. But he had fun!

Denial

So, it's January 10th and, calendar-speaking, Christmas is long gone. But I'm kind of in denial. My tree is still up, I just barely finished sending out my cards this week, and I'm trying to make up Christmas treats on the fly (how can they all be gone?!). I still haven't really buckled down to work at work and quite honestly, I keep wondering why I am not snuggling a baby or playing games with the kids. I like my co-workers, but they definitely aren't as cute as those kids.*

I know I'm in denial, but quite frankly, I'm not in a hurry to get back to real life. It's pretty boring. So, if you don't mind, I'm going to get back to my denial of real life. Feel free to join me by the tree if you like.

*I think I've had dreams about having to leave my vacation and come back to work at least 3 times in the last week. Boo!
